正式進入盛夏。小暑意指天氣開始炎熱,但還未到極熱。此時全國作物進入蓬勃生長期,農友需加強田間管理。小暑前後,中國許多地區常出現雷雨,並伴有強風、暴雨,有時甚至會降下冰雹。

To cope with the persistent heat, mung beans and winter melon are popular food choices in most households. We should also drink plenty of water and reduce outdoor activities to prevent heatstroke. Another point to note is that no matter how unbearable the weather becomes, we should avoid over-reliance on air conditioning.

熱浪漸退,天氣轉涼。依循傳統習俗,此時正是「貼秋膘」的時節。由於夏日食欲不振,人們習慣在秋天以肉食滋補身體。有些女孩因為擔心體重增加,對「貼秋膘」這件事可是敬而遠之呢。
Autumn arrives around August 7th or 8th. As the heat waves subside, the weather gradually cools. According to Chinese tradition, this is the time for “Tiē Qiū Biāo” (autumn fattening). Since appetites tend to wane in summer, people supplement their diet with meat in autumn. Some women, however, dread this practice for fear of gaining weight.

As temperatures drop, dew often forms on leaves in the early morning due to moisture condensation overnight—hence the name White Dew.

立冬是重要的節氣。古時皇帝會率領文武百官至北郊祭壇舉行祭天儀式。時至今日,人們仍會在這天進行各種應景的慶祝活動。
Winter Begins is a significant solar term. In ancient times, the emperor would lead officials to the northern suburban altar to worship heaven. Even today, people still observe various customs to celebrate this day.

Light Snow
這個節氣氣溫逐漸降至冰點以下,但大地尚未過於寒冷。雖然開始飄雪,雪量卻不大,因此稱為「小雪」。
Temperatures gradually fall below freezing, yet the earth is not extremely cold. Although snow begins to fall, it is usually light—hence the name Light Snow.
