六、元音字組在重讀音節中的發音規則

以下整理常見的元音字組及其在重讀音節中的主要讀音，並附上例詞供參考對照。

ai/ay 通常發 [ei] 音，例如：afraid, rain, wait, day, play。

air 字組多讀作 [εE]，例如：air, hair, chair, pair, repair。
_x000D_
al 字組的讀音需視情況而定：在一般情況下如 small, ball, talk, wall 發 [C:] 音；在 f, m 前則可能讀作 [α:]，例如 half, calm；另如 always, also, salt 等詞亦發 [C:] 音。

au/aw 通常發 [C:] 音，例如：autumn, daughter, draw。

ea 字組有三種常見讀音：[i:] 如 teach, easy；[e] 如 heavy, bread；[ei] 則如 break, great。

ear 的讀音較為多元：[iE] 見於 hear, dear；[εE] 見於 bear, pear；[E:] 則如 earth, learn。
